A man and a woman have been attacked by a passenger on a train travelling from Leeds to Sheffield.
The 20-year-old man received cuts and a swollen left eye when he was punched several times by another man when he fell on to him as he left his seat at Fitzwilliam station.

The woman received a blow to her left temple when she tried to intervene i
n the attack, but was uninjured.

Both victims had boarded the Northern service at Wakefield and left the train, along with the attacker, at Moorthorpe.

The suspect was described as a white man, aged in his mid-30s, approximately 6ft tall, clean-shaven, with broad shoulders and spoke with a foreign accent.

He was wearing a blue baseball cap, a blue, white and grey horizontal-striped, long-sleeved, round-necked shirt and dark-coloured jeans.

Pc Paul Glynn, of British Transport Police, said: "We believe another male passenger intervened to break up the incident and we are particularly keen to speak to him as he is a potential witness."

Anyone with information is asked to contact British Transport Police on Freefone 0800 405040.
