They were shown as part of the Strangely Familiar exhibition on Whitehall Waterfront which displayed the work of two photographers Eric Jaquier and Peter Mitchell.

Both men committed to film snapshots of Leeds from the 1960s, 70s and 80s – but the curators wanted to broaden the scope further.

In partnership with the Yorkshire Evening Post they invited contributions from the public which would either include easily identifiable images of the city, more obscure scenes snapped or simple portraits of Loiners.

What they accumulated was a collection of around 300 images which in combination created a montage of Leeds's long and proud history.

Now those entries have been whittled down to a shortlist of ten and we're asking readers to vote for the photograph which they feel is the best.

"Some are incredibly old, others totally modern. Many capture the changing landscape of the city while others capture the essence of the people.

"Which has made it all the harder to get down to just ten entries, but we feel that the shortlist is an interesting and varied snapshot of Leeds old and new."

We're asking readers to select their favourite – the voting window closes on Monday May 12 –
