A VIOLENT criminal on the run from jail for more than two months was caught by police but then slipped his police guards and went on the run again.
Joseph Marshall, pictured, was arrested after crashing a stolen Volvo while over the drink- drive limit after a 15-minute high-speed police chase through Leeds.
He had flipped the car on its roof and told police his head hurt and he needed medical attention, Leeds Crown Court heard.
Marshall, 21, was taken by police escort to a Leeds hospital and to the x-ray department. But he ran away after his handcuffs were taken off.
Marshall, who was re-captured seven days later, was jailed for five-and-a- half years.
He had failed to return to Doncaster prison after being allowed a day's home visit last December 9.
He was serving a four- year sentence imposed in April 2005 for attempted robbery and dangerous driving.
Jane Dodson, for Marshall, said he had absconded from Doncaster prison after being assaulted by another inmate.
Marshall, of no fixed abode – originally from west Leeds, had admitted escaping custody and aggravated vehicle taking.
