Community cash means cadets are no longer up the creek without a paddle.

By Jo Rostron
CHRISTMAS came early for a string of West Yorkshire community groups this year thanks to a hugely successful YEP campaign.
Together with Barclays, the YEP-backed Community Cash Giveaway saw 28 groups get a share of a £22,500 pot.
The cash has now been distributed and clubs are able to start 2007 with vital new equipment.
Before our offer Leeds Sea Cadets were up the creek without a paddle...three paddles to be precise.
Our cash giveaway provided a lifeline for the popular group after callous thieves broke into their boat shed and stole five flotation jackets and three oars.
Without those, the rowing teams could not compete in district competitions where they represent Leeds.
Dave Hall from the group said: "It was brilliant to be selected. We thought we'd only been shortlisted so it was a fantastic surprise and great for the club too."
The £625 won by the group will purchase a new set of oars which will help put the cadets back on the water in Spring 2007.
This year's Community Cash Giveaway was hailed by Barclays as their best ever campaign after we were flooded with applications.

The number of bids for a share of the cash pot was so huge, Barclays increased the total amount from £15,000 to £22,500.
And the Twilight Over 55s group will be back in the money thanks to our scheme.
The 57 members were thrilled to win cash to replace an ancient bingo machine which is prone to breaking down.
They were celebrating in style at a Christmas party where the old machine gave one of its final performances.
Organiser Betty Jackson said previously the club could not afford a new one, leaving the future of the social club for over 55s in jeopardy.
"We were thrilled to be told we had won the money," she said. "Everyone was so excited as this is a vital part of our club as we play bingo all the time."
Betty added that without a new machine it would have been impossible to continue running the club which members depend on to get them out of the house.
"The old machine was a real nuisance," said Betty, "but we have had it 10 years so it has seen us in good stead."
Pensioners enjoyed a Christmas bash at Abbey Grange High School – courtesy of our campaign.
The money covered transport for pensioners from Queenswood STEPs and Bramley Elderly Action groups as well as bingo, raffle prizes and lunch costs.
l Leeds Sea Cadets are looking for new members aged 10 to 18. Please contact 07709 977236 for more details.
