Leeds beauty Nell McAndrew is to take part in this year's Leeds Abbey Dash 10km and lead the pre-race warm up.
The super fit 35-year-old busy mum and model was the fastest celebrity at this year's London Marathon, finishing the 26 miles in a time of three hours and 10 minutes.

Today she urged people to sign up and take part in the 10km fundraising race from city centre Leeds to Kirkstall Abbey and back, on Sunday November 22.

All sponsorship goes to Help the Aged and Age Concern charities, to raise vital funds and benefit older people living in Leeds and West Yorkshire.

Nell, whose son Devon is three, said: "I will be taking part this year and it's going to be a family affair as I am running with my mum Nancy and brother Gary.

"It's a good route and I would urge anyone who is capable to take part if they can. The charities raise vital funds for older people and help to stop them being isolated in their own homes."

Nell spoke about the importance of older people having contact with others and getting out and about and meeting others: "My grandad loves going out to his day centre.

"Although it is not one earmarked for closure they are vital and are a lifeline for many.

"It is sad that some of the day centres in Leeds may close."
Leeds-born Nell, originally from Belle Isle, who will be leading a warm-up in Victoria Gardens ahead of the Leeds Abbey Dash, also urged runners to prepare as much as possible ahead of the race.

"I believe that it is always vital to warm up ahead of a race to prevent sporting injuries. I would recommend that all participants come along to the pre-race warm-up – it's a fun way to get in the mood, so hopefully I'll see you there."

Local older people's projects throughout the UK will once again benefit from monies raised from the Help the Aged Leeds Abbey Dash, including the funding of a HandyVan service in the Leeds and West Yorkshire area.

The HandyVan service fits security devices to help older people feel safer in their own homes.

Six thousand places are available for runners in the 10k road race; however, with only limited places now remaining, runners are urged to sign up now.
