A motorist killed himself by driving at more than 80mph into a historic stone gateway at Castle Howard in North Yorkshire.
A Scarborough inquest heard from traffic constable Stephen Kirkbright that he believed Christian Miles Hobbin, 42, a train driver of Roman Avenue North, Stamford Bridge, York, had deliberately crashed his BMW into Carmire Gate, on the approach to the stately home, near Malton, with the intention of taking his life.
He said there had been two similar fatal accidents there in the past two years and the gateway was listed as a potential suicide spot on the internet. The Coroner recorded a verdict that Mr Hobbin killed himself.
