After rubbing shoulders with Lady Gaga, Vivienne Westwood and Gok Wan in London, Lady Lloyd has now headed north to start a new residency at Back Door Disco in Mission in Leeds. We got a little Q&A with the DJ.
How does it feel to be in Leeds?
I'm very excited. It gets me out of my usual gigs in London for a while and it's always nice to be somewhere different. Plus, everyone in Leeds is so hot. I've never been to a city where everyone's so well groomed and fashionable. Also, of all my residences, Mission actually has one of the best sound systems.
And you've just finished touring with Ke$ha, what she like?
I love her. One of the nicest people you can meet. There is something really sexual about her too. Even though she doesn't look like a supermodel she has a great energy which really draws people to her. I got to perform at the o2 and Wembley Stadium with her plus lots of TV bits and bobs so it's been great to be her friend.
Did you get up to anything crazy with her?
I took her to the Vivienne Westwood fashion show and afterwards we went to the Mulberry party and there were these giant polystyrene glittery tigers. Ke$ha's album is called Animal and along with Pixie Lott we tried to steal them for K$'s stage show. We were all pretty wasted and couldn't manoeuvre ourselves very well and caused such a commotion we got caught and got a dressing down from the record label. They blamed me – but it wasn't my fault!
You know Gaga quite well too don't you? What's she Like? Did she get the 'Lady' part of her name from you?
I met her just after she became 'Lady Gaga' but it is kinda annoying if people think I'd got the 'Lady' bit of my name off her. I've been Lady Lloyd a lot longer actually! She was absolutely amazing, she came and did her first ever London show at my club night OMO. There are videos of me introducing her on youtube. I knew she'd be ruling the world though from the first time I heard Just Dance. She just has the whole package. It was quite funny that when she came over, it was fashion week and the poor love wasn't being let into a party... I noticed her at the door and had to get her in. Imagine that now? I love her.
Who does their make up better out of the two of you?
Well let's see. I do all mine myself so I reckon I can probably make my face look better than she can, but you cannot deny the girl has some major looks. I hated it when she first came out and everyone was saying how she isn't pretty. I think she's very pretty and unique. Who wants to look like a 'California Gurl' anyway? Boring! Her body is to die for too.
How's it going at Back Door Disco? What are you playing?
The night is just amazing. Every week it's getting more and more busy and clubbers are putting in a real effort to dress up and look fantastic. It really is the best gay club night in the North right now. I love Alejandro, Commander by Kelly Rowland is massive at the moment, the new Kylie is lovely and I like the summery vibes from Stereo Love. There's this new David Guetta produced track called Dirty Talk from a girl called Wynter Gordon that's going to be massive.
You're DJing at Pride this year too, are you excited?
Yeah I can't wait. I did the parade a couple of years and had a blast, I'm sure the party in the street is going to be major. I love DJing outdoors so can't wait for that one.
You met Gok Wan the other day. What's he like?
He's adorable. I'm in an episode of his show, How To Look Good Naked. He's great fun. Drinks loads of beer and smokes like a chimney. I drag him to Trannyshack every now and then and he always asks me out for a date. Now I'm single actually so watch this space.
What can we expect from BDD this year?
Well, there's loads going on this summer with a beach party happening in August, so make sure you have your best swimwear out for that one. Plus I'll be there tearing up the decks. Things are going to explode in September when all the students return too, so you'll have to make sure you're about when that happens. The club is always full to the brim and everyone is always so lovely because they're new and trying to make friends. There's going to be some big parties that month.
Anything else in the pipeline?
Yes, I'm just about to film a pilot show with Vivienne Westwood for the BBC. It's called Get A Life and will be a sort of political chat show. I'm actually not sure what I have to do. It's early stages but Viv's asked me to be in it, so I will. I'm just hoping I don't have to actually 'act' as my acting standards are more suited to a Hollyoaks cameo – which I'd actually love to be in.
Every Saturday, Mission, Heaton's Court, Leeds, 11pm to 4am, £5, www.backdoordisco.com.
