A BLANKET booze ban will be in force for Leeds United's League One derby game at Doncaster Rovers on Saturday.
South Yorkshire Police said today town centre pubs will be closed until 4pm on the day of the match – Leeds United's first league visit to Doncaster for more than 50 years.

The Lakeside bar and kiosks inside the ground will also not serve alcohol.

Police said it is anticipated that Saturday will see the first full house at The Keepmoat Stadium – and the match and surrounding areas will be policed accordingly.

"Substantial police resources" will be deployed in Doncaster on Saturday, including officers from North Yorkshire.

There will also be a large British Transport Police presence at Doncaster railway station.

South Yorkshire Police stressed that there will be no ticket sales on the day to either home or away supporters. Supt Richard Tweed said: "We would like to see this operation smoothly and for all fans to have a safe and enjoyable day.

"South Yorkshire Police will be on hand to deal with anyone who may attempt to disrupt the peace."

Gavin Baldwin, Chief Executive of the Doncaster Stadium management company said: "We have worked closely with South Yorkshire Police in the run-up to this big local derby match.

"As a result of this the decision has been made not to serve alcohol from the Lakeside Bar and kiosks on the match day.

"This is a precautionary measure intended to help the police in their management and crowd control at the match and ties in with the request made to town centre pubs not to serve alcohol until after the match.

"We apologise to any fans who are upset by this decision, but we strongly believe it is the right thing to do for a derby match where emotions may well be running high."
