SHE was 16 when the Titanic sank, 18 at the start of the First World War and 43 at the beginning of World War Two.

The supercentarian from Pudsey – now the 21st oldest person in the world – marked the occasion with a family visit.

Four generations of her family wished Florrie a happy 112th at Radcliffe Gardens Nursing Home, just over a year after she became the UK's oldest person.

She tucked into an special cake featuring 112 handpiped roses created by the home's chef.

Her grandson David Worsnop, 62, said: "She's lived through six different monarches and 21 prime ministers.

"She's fit as a fiddle and her heart is strong as ever, but her memory is ever more hazy.

"I can't believe she's 112. I can still remember her chasing me about. She had a real temper, though she was very loving."

David added that his mother, Maisie, 87, amazed her neighbours when she said she was going to buy a mother's day card.

Florrie was born in 1896 and even remembers Queen Victoria visiting Leeds.

Florrie, a grandmother of two, great grandmother of six and great great grandmother of five, was part of a large family and grew up in Hunslet. In 1919 she married painter and decorator Clifford Baldwin and moved to Woodhouse.

She worked as a clerk for engineering firm George Bray and Co for 50 years, only retiring at 76.

Her husband died in 1973 and Florrie lived alone until she moved to Radcliffe Gardens aged 105.

At that point she was still very active, getting on ladders to put up curtains and clean windows.

Her family thinks it is her determination and strong will which has enabled her to live so long.

The next oldest person in the UK is Henry Allingham, 112 on June 6, and the oldest person in the world is Edna Parker, 114 of Indiana, US.

She was known as Sylvia Ward her sister was called Shirley and her brother called Terry. My mothers mother was called Dorothy Ward who lived in Meanwood. My mum seems to remember a set of twins visiting (Doris & Marg). If anyone can shed any light I would be grateful or contact my mum on 07852521857. Many thanks
