A POLICE sergeant suspended under an alleged fraud investigation has been found hanged.
Sgt Simon Jenkinson was discovered when colleagues were called to a home in Parkland Drive, Meanwood, Leeds, on Thursday afternoon.
The death is not being treated as suspicious.
Sgt Jenkinson, 31, who was based in the North West Leeds Division, had been the subject of an internal investigation by the West Yorkshire Police Professional Standards Department, a force spokesman said.
The spokesman also confirmed that the officer had been arrested and suspended from his duties before being released on police bail.
It is believed that the investigations relate to an alleged fraudulent insurance claim regarding a burglary and also reports of criminal damage to a house and a vehicle.
The police have confirmed that as part of the investigation a 23-year-old woman was also arrested and was later released on police bail pending further enquiries.
It is believed that Sgt Jenkinson had been released from police custody on Monday following his arrest.
He was found at the address in Meanwood at about 1.15pm on Thursday.
It is understood Sgt Jenkinson was engaged to be married.
The YEP also believes that another man who had been interviewed as part of the investigation had subsequently been officially cleared of any wrongdoing by police a week ago.
Sgt Jenkinson was subsequently arrested on Monday and interviewed before being released on bail.
His death was referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission, but the IPCC referred it back to West Yorkshire Police for a local inquiry.
Chief Superintendent Ian Whitehouse, Divisional Commander of North West Leeds Division, said: "Any sudden death is tragic but particularly when it is one of our officers.
"I extend our sympathies to Simon's family, friends and work colleagues. I have spoken personally to officers who I know worked closely with Simon and we are offering support to any staff affected by his death."
