The Leeds Harvey Nichols barman scooped the runner-up prize at the UK finals of the International Havana Club Cocktail Grand Prix competition in London.

Claudio impressed a prestigious judging panel by creating three cocktails at the Bar Music Hall on Sunday.

The competition was based on a style of judging used by the Association de Cantineros de Cuba (Association of Professional Cuban Barmen).

It was set up in 1924 and taught junior bartenders the art of service as well as cocktail making.

To hone their skills the association conducted an annual cocktail competition taking place in one of Havana's renowned hotels.

The competitions were not judged by industry professionals, but select civilians who were as passionate about cocktails as the contestants.
Qualify

Claudio received the biggest audience vote to qualify to represent the UK at the International Cocktail Grand Prix Final.

Held in May, the final sees representatives from 30 countries across the world.

It is considered one of the most important events in the bartending arena.

The 12 UK finalists were required to re-create three cocktails, one twist on a classic Cuban cocktail such as the El Presidente or Daiquiri and two original drinks of their own.
