Peter McGuire has always thought the 8th August to be lucky – it was the day he was born.
And today, the lifelong Leeds Rhinos fan turns 80 – a fourth eight to add to the mix.

He said: "I'm quite excited because of it being the eighth day of the eighth month, 2008.

"Chinese people say it's their lucky number and who knows – I might win the Lottery."

Mr McGuire, who grew up in Woodhouse and Meanwood, attended the former St Anne's RC School in Leeds – the same one as actor Peter O'Toole and Sir Jimmy Savile.

They had three children and Mr McGuire, a retired engineer, also has two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He is a keen rugby fan, having supported Leeds for nearly 60 years, as well as arranging trips to finals and helping run amateur Rugby League clubs.

He is also looking forward to tonight's game, when his special birthday will be flashed up on the scoreboard and announced at half time.
