The race was also a poignant day for the Tomlinson family, coming less than a year since fundraiser Jane Tomlinson lost her seven year battle with breast cancer.
Jane's husband Mike stood at the finishing line to cheer the winner's home.
He said: "The event is 50 per cent bigger than last year. It will just keep getting bigger and bigger, which is a good position to be in.
"It's been an amazing day. Everyone came running though with smiles on their faces."
It is hoped runners will raise up to £170,000 for Jane's Appeal, set up to raise funds for children's and cancer charities.
And the total raised for a myriad of different charities could reach £750,000.
