The retired Leeds General Infirmary midwife is thought to have been hit on the head with a blunt instrument and her body dumped in a pit near her villa in the St James area.

Speaking today, Ms Scott Jones' son Brandon Jones, from Wakefield, said the family had been horrified to find pictures of her body being recovered from a pit in a body bag being broadcast by some media.

Mr Jones, 37, said: "All Barbara's family are extremely concerned about false information we believe to have come from Jamaican police regarding her private life.

"We are also horrified and disgusted that a still photograph of Barbara's body being recovered from a pit is being broadcast by British media.

"We urge all media outlets to refrain from publishing or broadcasting this image which is deeply offensive to Barbara and all her family.

"We also object strongly to publication in any form of a second photograph of family members at the scene where Barbara's body was found.

"We believe these images are all coming directly from the Jamaican police. We would like to remind the media that there is an ongoing inquiry and it would be unwise to prejudice this inquiry.

"We have raised our concerns with the British High Commissioner and we hope the British media will respect our wishes.

"It is an extremely difficult and sensitive time for all Barbara's family and friends and we ask that our privacy be respected."

Speaking to the YEP earlier, Mr Jones and his brother in law Murat Yildiz had paid warm tributes to their "kind, bright and young at heart" loved one.

"We are obviously all devastated. We loved her very much," Mr Jones said.

And Mr Murat, 32, said his mother in law was "bright, caring, always smiling and young at heart".

Ms Scott Jones had been living in Jamaica on and off for the past decade.
