THE first sod has been turned on 30 plots at Victory Garden Allotments in Rawdon.
The field has been a hive of activity since the field was opened up for planting last week, said Phil Gomersall, site secretary.

Young and old have been getting involved in the preparation, which has brought a family atmosphere back to the area, he added. “There have been more people from the local community on this piece of land this last week since it became allotments, than have ever used it as a playing field over the last five years,” said Phil.

A water supply will be connected shortly.
