A FOUR-year-old girl may be permanently scarred after being attacked and "thrown like a rag doll" by a dog.
The youngster was enjoying a family day out at Harewood House when the attack happened.
Today the youngster's mother of Gildersome, Morley, who is in her 30s but does not want to be named, said the attack happened while they were attending a steam rally.
She said: "My daughter saw these friends and I told her she could run to meet them. They were 50 yards away.
"I turned to attend to my son and my husband saw what happened next.
Lacerations
"He said this dog, which was on an extending lead, came out of nowhere and grabbed our daughter by her face and flipped her in the air.
"My husband ran over to pick her up and the dog owner pulled the dog away."
The girl had lacerations and teeth marks on her face, two just below her right eye.
"My daughter was taken to Harrogate hospital and they have done an amazing job. But, they have said she might end up with permanent scarring.
"The dog looked like a Staffordshire bull terrier type, crossed with possibly a pit bull terrier.
"My worry is that that dog involved is still out there. Let's hope it doesn't get another child. I believe it should be destroyed because it could have blinded my daughter or killed her. It made an awful mess of her face."
She said that since the attack her daughter had nightmares, waking up crying. "The other day we were walking in the village and a woman with a dog came towards us. My daughter started shaking like a leaf."
Det Insp Nick Wallen, of North West Leeds CID, confirmed that police were called to the incident at Harewood and were investigating.
The parents of the young girl and the dog owner had been interviewed. He added: "We shall be taking advice from the Crown Prosecution Service as to whether there is sufficient evidence to prosecute the dog owner."
