PLANNERS are fighting to save employment land in the centre of Guiseley.
They refused permission for Springfield Works, in Otley Road, to be demolished and replaced with two blocks totalling 23 flats.

An appeal by Chartford Homes Ltd will now go to an informal public inquiry.

Coun Stuart Andrew (Con, Guiseley and Rawdon) told Leeds West plans panel: “There are some historic buildings in that area and we need to keep them if we can.”

Planning officer Christine Naylor said the flats would cause a loss of valuable employment land.
