MOST brides only wear their wedding gown once – but now there's another opportunity to don your dream dress.
A glitzy wedding dress ball is being held in aid of Cancer Research UK and ladies have been invited to wear their frocks from their big day.

The night at Woodkirk Valley Country Club near Dewsbury, will be on a wedding reception theme complete with buffet, cake, disco and raffle.

Kirsty Gelder has organised the event after several of her friends were affected by cancer.

She said: "So many people are affected by this terrible disease.

"Unfortunately, four of my work colleagues have lost their parents recently, making the fight to cure cancer something we all feel very strongly about."

Kirsty, a team leader for Yorkshire Ambulance Service, said: "It's another reason to wear your wedding dress but also it's doing something for charity.

"If ladies want to wear theirs that's great, but if they don't then formal dress is fine."

Kirsty, 32, of Flanshaw in Wakefield won't actually be wearing her own – as she's pregnant.

She said the venue had provided the room at no cost, while colleague Susan Laycock was making the wedding cake – but they still needed a band willing to perform for free.

Sally Hutton, area volunteer manager at Cancer Research UK, said: "We are extremely grateful to people like Kirsty.

"Here in West Yorkshire we currently spend over £5m each year on ground-breaking research at our Clinical Centre at St James's Hospital."

To buy tickets for the ball, or if you can help with music or any other aspect of the event, ring Kirsty on 07828 621053, 01924 310026 or email babylon69@blueyonder.co.uk. Tickets cost £10 (£15 a couple)
