The 34-year-old was kicked and punched by the three who had been trying to steal his silver Honda from a back street behind Cross Green Avenue, Cross Green, Leeds.

One of the thugs used a wooden broom handle to batter the victim and damage his car.

The victim's 32-year-old brother then stepped in and took his brother back into a nearby house. But the gang smashed the front door with hammers and a handsaw before running off to join a group of 25 youths.

The car owner was left covered in cuts and bruises while his brother suffered from shock.

Police believe up to 60 witnesses may have seen the attack at 3.30pm on Friday August 8.

The offenders are described as white youths, the first is around 5 ft 5in to 5 ft 8ins tall, of a slim build with blonde hair, blue eyes. He was wearing blue jeans with a light sleeveless top.

The second is described as around 5 ft 8 to 6ins ft tall with dark hair, of a slim build and wearing a dark blue tracksuit bottoms. The third is described as around 5 ft 2ins tall of a skinny build with dark hair.
