A THRIVING Leeds film studio is to launch its latest production.
Five years ago a plan to create an Independent Film and Television Studio for Leeds was floated to Leeds-born actor, scriptwriter, and director Kay Mellor and her production company, Rollem.

Two years later in 2006, Studio 81 opened on Kirkstall Road at the edge of Leeds city centre with Rollem's BBC production, The Chase.

Rollem's latest production, A Passionate Woman, brings them back to the Production Centre at Studio 81 with filming to start early autumn.

Kay Mellor said: "I'm so pleased we're back at Studio 81, it's got great memories for all of us here at Rollem. The facilities are fantastic and it all adds to the bouyant independent film and TV production industry here in Leeds."

With the help of Screen Yorkshire and their chief executive Sally Joynson, Studio 81 has hosted over 50 hours of feature film and television drama with average annual budgets of £11.5m.

Productions include:

Rollem Productions – The Chase – Series 1 & 2

Rollem Productions – Strictly Confidential

Tiger Aspect – White Girl

Mammoth Screen – Lost in Austen

Left Bank Pictures – The Damned Utd

Mammoth Screen – Wuthering Heights

Revolution Films – Red Riding

Left Bank Pictures – Married, Single, Other...

BBC Drama – 5 Days – Series 2

Marigo Kehoe of Left Bank Pictures said: "When we decided to come to Leeds to make The Damned Utd, the Production Centre at Studio 81 offered us everything we needed.

"The environment suited the project, the people of Leeds were great to work with and everything we needed was within easy reach."
