FORMED 15 months ago by four teenage pals, Emergencies are a band with high hopes for their debut EP, due out in January.

Called We Are The Waves, it's an energetic slice of punk-funk that was recorded at The Lodge studios in Bridlington with up-and-coming producer James Kenosha, who's also worked with fellow Leeds groups Grammatics, Duels and The Hair.

The band – who comprise Stefan 'Zebs' Zaremba on bass, Declan Hogan on vocals, Rich Milligan on guitar and Nathan Lyttle on drums – are currently attracting around 100 hits a day on their MySpace page and recently recorded a session for BBC Radio Leeds.

"They've got a good set list of 12 songs which they've written themselves," says Stefan's dad, Stephen. "And they work brilliantly as a team."

Having played gigs at Trash, Joseph's Well and the Brudenell Social Club, they're lining up more shows before Christmas.

On Friday, November 28 they play the Fighting Cancer Concerts launch night at The Spinning Wheel on Dewsbury Road, Beeston. Also on the bill are Shakinouts, The Farrs and The Dead Certs. Tickets are available in advance from Jumbo and Crash Records. Profits go to the Yorkshire Cancer Centre.

The band are poised to release We Are The Waves around the date of their gig at the Cockpit on January 23.
