A FEROCIOUS mix of hardcore, metal and avant-garde noise, the eponymous debut album from Leeds band Chickenhawk arrives this week with a glowing endorsement from one national newspaper, which declared "these guys rock hard".
Formed four years ago, the band were a trio until recently. "But since we've recorded the album we realised our drummer, who is also the singer, needed more freedom to be able to nail all the vocal lines so we are now a four-piece," explains guitarist Robert Stephens.
The full line-up now comprises Rob, Paul Astick on guitar and vocals, Ryan Clark on bass and Matthew Reid on drums.
Says Rob, their influences range from Danny Elfman to Buckethead, Hella, The Melvins and Shellac. Others have noted shades of Sabbath, Black Flag and Harvey Milk.
The band play at a Subculture all-dayer on Saturday, November 29 and also at the Brudenell Social Club on Friday, December 12. The Chickenhawk album is available now on Sound Devastation.
