You know you’re on to a winner when you hardly see the kids on holiday.
Don’t get me wrong, I love spending time with my two boys, but we all need our own space and if I know they’re happy and having fun, I’m happy too.
Like most parents, I spend my week juggling work and running around after my children and have very little ‘me time’. So when it comes to choosing a holiday destination, the entertainment on offer is at the top of the list of priorities.
If on our return we can say: “we’ve had a fabulous time” I know I’ve chosen well and it was worth every penny.
That was certainly the case during our recent family holiday at the Fergus Style Cala Blanca Suites Hotel in Majorca with Jet2 Holidays.
My sons, aged 10 and seven, didn’t want leave the hotel during our stay. If asked if they’d like to go for a walk or a trip to the beach, the reply was, “No, we can’t miss kids club”.
The in-house entertainment team worked tirelessly, day and night, to keep the children entertained with many different sports and games.
To the rear of the hotel an artificial lawn has been laid, where the kids could play football, hockey, volleyball, basketball, dodgeball and mini Olympics. After such energetic sports the team would slow the pace down with table tennis, ring toss and popular Dutch game Sjoelen – a version of table shuffleboard.
There’s also a full adult entertainment schedule during the day including, yoga, aerobics, cocktail making and many more activities.
At dusk the outdoor stage lights are switched on and music turned up for the mini disco. The team dance with the kids, teaching them dance moves to every song, including a couple of catchy Spanish numbers (I’m still singing them now.) The children loved it, so much so they would follow the team around long after the disco had finished - now that’s the sign of great entertainers.
For the adults, the hotel stages a variety shows from flamenco dancers to a Cuban band playing 80s hits.
The Fergus Style Cala Blanca Suites Hotel has been completely refurbished during the winter of 2012 at a cost of 3.5 million euros. The transformation is testament to Fergus Hotels vision of what holidaymakers desire and deserve.
Set in a great location, with it’s own secluded beach, the hotel is not far from the town centre of Santa Ponsa in a small bay on the Costa de la Calma. Close by is the town square with a selection of restaurants, bars and shops.
If you fancy a change of scenery the Western Water Park and Aqualand are a short taxi ride away or take a trip to Palma for a spot of sightseeing and discover the city’s rich history and culture.
The 4-star hotel has been beautifully renovated to a very high standard. The theme throughout follows a white minimal look with a hint of blue from accessories, including cushions and bed throws. In the sunshine this creates a clean and bright look.
Our air-conditioned suite was spacious and tastefully decorated with a flatscreen satellite TV, free Wi-Fi, hairdryer and balcony with sea view.
Guests staying in superior suites can also look forward to a welcome gift, two reservations for the a la carte restaurant per stay (with a free babysitting service available), Playstation, as well as wonderful finishing touches, including bathrobes and slippers.
The pool area was great for the kids (with water slides at the shallow end) to keep them happy for hours. The best thing for me was the ocean view from my sun lounger and a welcome sea breeze during the hottest part of the day.
The pool bar allowed us to order food through the day with waiter service available. On an afternoon we would sit at the bar and take in the fabulous scenery. It was extremely relaxing, we could have sat there for the rest of the day - but the peace was short-lived once the kids club finished and the boys returned.
Then it would be a quick change ready for dinner to see what the buffet restaurant had on the menu that evening.
The food was outstanding, with plenty of choice for the whole family. Roast meats carved in front of you, steak, an excellent selection of fish dishes and a colourful salad bar. There was a kids section too, so if you’ve got a child who’s a fussy eater (like I have) they’ll still find something they like, and all week.
Unlike all other inclusive hotels I’ve visited, the drinks served here were all branded and other guests did comment on this. The order of the day was always a cocktail. They looked amazing and tasted amazing too. My favourite, like many other guests, was the mojito.
The best thing about the hotel was the staff. Every single one of them were attentive to everybody’s needs. A special mention has to go to José who was a star serving us food and drinks around the pool all day. Like all the staff he was very friendly and always had a smile on his face.
