A Leeds student has found himself in the driving seat after winning a brand new car in a prize draw.

First-year Leeds University student Hassan Ali Raja, 20, from Burnley, was automatically entered into a prize draw after becoming a tenant of lettings firm YPP. Hassan, who is studying chemical engineering, was picked from over 220 entries as the winner of a brand new Hyundai i10.

YPP specialises in providing accommodation for students and professionals in Leeds ranging from flats and houses in Hyde Park and Headingley, to luxury apartments in large, refurbished buildings.

Hassan, who became a YPP tenant after moving into his studio apartment at the prestigious Q Two development on Queen Street in Leeds city centre in September, was presented with the keys by Jennifer Pierce, YPP marketing manager.

Hassan only passed his driving test last year and had to sell his first car, as city centre parking is so expensive.

Hassan said: “I couldn’t believe it when YPP told me I’d won a car. I was stunned and didn’t think it could happen to me. When I decided I wanted to live at Q Two, I thought I was just signing up for the keys to my new accommodation – little did I know I’d also be getting the keys to a fantastic new car and free parking too. I wanted to live somewhere central but affordable with plenty of room and the fact that it was a new build appealed to me greatly.

“To find myself in such a fantastic property that is perfect for me and to then win a car is a massive, unexpected bonus.”

The prize draw to win the Hyundai i10 was held to celebrate the launch of YPP’s flagship developments Q One and Q Two in Leeds city centre. Development started on the buildings, which were both previously commercial offices, in October 2014 and completed in September 2015. Both properties, which offer a mixture of 221 studio, one-bed and two-bed apartments, were fully let by the end of August, a month before the schemes were fully completed.

Jennifer Pierce of YPP commented: “We were delighted at the interest in Q One and Q Two and for both schemes to be fully let before they opened shows the level of demand for superior, stylish quality accommodation in Leeds city centre.

“We offered all new tenants the chance to win a city car and free parking and there was huge excitement from all of the tenants as one of them definitely knew they were going to win the car but Hassan was the lucky winner. ”

Amongst its property portfolio, YPP has a number of exciting property developments in Leeds, Harrogate and York, including: Rivers House, Park Square South which is undergoing refurbishment. Renamed Park Square Residence it will offer 78 beds (63 separate apartments), with a mixture of studios, one- and two-beds
