The old adage says that there is ‘No Place like home’ and one leading housebuilder Miller Homes knows this better than most.

But, whilst the team spends their days creating fantastic homes, they have also worked tirelessly over the last year to raise vital funds for Martin House, a children’s hospice charity based in Yorkshire.

“Martin House is a truly amazing place and amazing charity and we are delighted to be able to help them with vital fundraising so that children and their families can enjoy a ‘home from home’ environment whilst they receive care,” commented Steve Birch, Area Managing Director Miller Homes North. “Our staff, mostly in their own time, have all really embraced the challenge with a host of events taking place including, Skydives, the notorious ‘Tough Mudder’, cross country cycle rides and culminating in a glittering black tie ball.”

The ball, which took place just last week at Leeds United’s Centenary Pavilion, was a massive success with over 500 people attending and enjoying auctions, live music, casino tables and comedian.

“Our charity ball was a fantastic night but most importantly we raised over £16,000 from the event alone,” said Neil Reaney event organiser and Customer Services Director Miller Homes Yorkshire. “Add this to our other fundraising which we have done between our 3 Miller North Regions, Yorkshire, North West and North East, and we have a total of over £32,000 for this amazing charity which we all hold close to our hearts now.

“It is sometimes easy to forget how lucky we are and take our precious children for granted as they go about their lives happy and well. Sadly, though there are others that are not so lucky and for whom Martin House provides support and care when they need it most. By doing these fun events we can make a really worthwhile contribution to their required funding.”

John Haigh from Martin House commented, “Working with Miller Homes this year has been an absolute pleasure. Having made a presentation to their Company Conference in March, during which we challenged the Miller teams to make a real difference to the more than 400 local children with life- limiting illnesses, and their families, who are cared for and supported by Martin House each year, so many people throughout the organisation have gone the extra mile in participating in events, organising things, persuading others to contribute and culminating in this massive charity ball at Elland Road attended by more than 500 supporters, including several Leeds United Legends.

“Miller Homes will have raised in excess of £30,000 for us this year, which is one of the very largest contributions we will receive from the corporate sector, a lot more than the target the company set themselves at the outset, and more than enough to pay for the entire hospice for two whole days. Not only this, but the whole team had great fun whilst doing so, and we hope has left lasting benefit in terms of employee motivation.

We thank every one of them for their personal contribution, and look forward to their continuing support into the future”

Martin House Children’s Hospice offers support to around 400 families at any one time and approximately £5 million is required annually to fund the facility.

Miller Homes currently has 11 developments located across the region. Properties range from two bedroom apartments in commuter locations to five bedroom executive homes in rural idylls.
