Leeds letting agency's triathlon event

Leeds Olympic gold medallist Alistair Brownlee has teamed up with a Yorkshire residential sales and letting agency to give children a chance to complete their first triathlon.

Hundreds of youngsters will compete in the first Brownlee Foundation Triathlon, sponsored by Linley & Simpson, at Ashville College, Harrogate, on Tuesday, June 7. Students from local primary schools will take part in a triathlon taster experience, by swimming 30m, cycling 1km and running 400m, as they try to emulate the success of the current Olympic, European and Commonwealth champion.

Brownlee, who could add to his medal collection in Rio this summer, visited the college - along with the agency’s directors Will Linley and Nick Simpson - to give students an insight into his daily training regime. He also shared top tips for becoming an Olympic champion.

Mr Linley, who took part in a triathlon organised by Brownlee at Harewood House last year, said: “I know from experience how hard a triathlon is – but this is hopefully the perfect introduction for the stars of tomorrow. We hope this event will spur on the next generation of budding Brownlees.

“Alistair and his brother Jonny are wonderful ambassadors – not just for sport, but for their home county of Yorkshire. We are delighted to be associated with such champions in helping to launch this event and we hope that it inspires Yorkshire’s young sporting talent to go for gold in the future. Our backing of this event is part of a wider campaign of ours to promote the sporting skills of children across Yorkshire, as well as raise money for good causes and charities in the communities where we operate.”
