Beauty: The healthy blow-dry and the perfect pony

Aveda is a hair and beauty brand that has achieved far more than mere cult status, through its exploration of the art and science of pure flower and plant essences to use in its aromatic and effective products.

At Harvey Nichols Leeds, the Aveda hair experts are offering a new transformative blow-dry service, where customers can have their hair styled, perhaps for a night out, while also having a consultation on the state of their hair and scalp.

It is advisable to book beforehand and then come in with hair freshly washed, but the staff might be able to accommodate walk-in customers too, depending on how busy they are.

An Aveda hair expert will then dampen down the hair and can blow dry or dry style, so it’s perfect for any time of evening event you might have. It costs £25, which is redeemable against product.

Also available are hair fixes, which are free of charge, where staff demonstrate how to use a variety of products on customers, and also offer the Healthy Scalp Check Up, which uses a camera that magnifies up to 60 times, allowing them to make recommendations for your hair care. You can even have a head massage while you’re there, also free of charge.

Meanwhile, Aveda has also been busy on the international catwalks, where teams have been creating directional runway looks using natural techniques and products.

At the Hellessy show in New York, a key look was the Put Together Pony, created by Aveda artist Tippi Shorter.

First spray with Aveda Shampure Dry Shampoo, which has 25 pure flowers and plant essences, including organic lavender, petitgrain and ylang ylang, to absorb oil and achieve a soft style that swings.

Sweep the hair back to the nape into a low ponytail and secure with an elastic band. Take a small piece of hair from underneath the ponytail and wrap around the elastic, then pin in place underneath, to conceal the elastic band and create a polished look. Finish with Aveda Air Control Light Hold Hairspray.
