Have your say

When people think of dungeons, they think dark, dingy and terrifying and they’d be right! But The York Dungeon is so much more than that and it is bolder and better than ever.

Visitors will take a 75-minute journey into more than 2000 years of York’s history, bringing together an amazing cast of theatrical actors, special effects, stages and scenes in a truly unique walkthrough experience.

Grab a group and take a walk through the darker history of York through 12 live shows and nine live actors, coming face to face with sinister characters from the city’s gruesome past.

Head to the depths of the Castle Prison and hear the tale on infamous highwayman Dick Turpin and his countless crimes committed between London and York. Make sure you remember, remember to come face to face with gunpowder plotter Guy Fawkes and find out all about what happened on that November night in 1605.

A brand new interactive show opened in 2016, Vengeance of the Vikings, and guests will find themselves at the heart of the Viking invasion in 866. You’ll be ‘introduced’ to the infamous Snore Short Sword and his unpleasant torture techniques, his arrogance and dim-wittedness is as hilarious as it is dangerous – one thing is for sure it’s not to be missed!

All of your senses will be engaged as you see, hear and even smell the history as it comes to life around you. The Dungeon has been completely revamped and is more thrilling than ever offering a frighteningly funny day out, whatever the weather.

The Dungeons are calling... Can you feel it?
