Don’t touch that, put it down and that’s not for you are all well used phrases when it comes to parenting young kids.
So imagine a place where you pay to go let them do all those things.
Heaven is what many parents would call it. Need a solution?
The national children’s museum based right next to the town’s rail station is a kid’s dream.
Just one ticket gives you unlimited access for 12 months and as the kids are almost guaranteed to love it, it’s spot on for revisiting several times.
Given our recent British summers’ weather, the fact this place is under cover makes it even better.
Set across two floors, you’re greeted with the Living and Working Together gallery – it’s set in its own town square home to a Halifax Bank, M&S and even garage and MOT station.
It lets kids go wild in places they normally can’t really interact with, but as learning is at the core of everything this place does they pick up vital tips and knowledge for later life.
Head left at the entrance and venture to the stars and make contact with a friendly alien, Orby, in the SoundSpace gallery – a futuristic theatre which encourages children to discover the science of sound and music.
It’s great fun with plenty of things to touch, twist and watch. The SoundGarden sits right next to that area and has been specifically designed for under 5s.
A glass lift takes you up to the first floor which is home to Desert Discovery, which includes a baby oasis, desert construction area and storytelling section.
Also on the first floor is the Me and My Body gallery, which is currently closed while it undergoes a £2.9m refurbishment which should be completed in the spring.
The museum also has a cafe.
Fun, learning and good food all adds up to something special that can be revisted.
