AFTER following Leeds rugby league club since the mid-sixties I must say that I rate the current team the best I have seen.
The support play is brilliant, the defence is very good and the team has more pace in it than for many a year.

They are also very well coached by a top man.

There have been many changes down the years at Headingley and most have been for the b
etter.

The pre-match entertainment is good with usually a curtain-raiser the cheerleaders and so on.

However my complaint is the overuse of the loudspeaker system.

Prior to a match it talks right up to kick-off, it talks right through half-time and even at the end of the match – it is impossible to speak to someone without being drowned out by this loudspeaker.

This would not be quite so bad if the information delivered was good but do we really need telling what round we are at in the Challenge Cup, what the score is every time somebody crosses the whitewash, or that it has been a good exciting game when we have just watched it.

A few weeks ago at the Wakefield match Don Fox's last minute missed goal kick was referred to as a drop-goal attempt.

I know the Leeds club have tried to make the ground vibrant but it would be nice to be able to talk about the match without being overpowered by the Tannoy every time.

The finest piece of pre-match entertainment, in my opinion, was the wonderful singer John Innes, which was a much better way of making the ground vibrant prior to a match.

PLEASE could someone explain to us Rhinos fans, how if England pick more than three or four of our players, can the Cas Tigers game be allowed to go ahead the following day? It's just madness, especially with the league getting tighter and tighter by the week.

It's just crazy to me that Leeds will have to field a massively weakened side.

Please can anyone tell me? I have tried to look into this but to no avail.

In my opinion the RFL have not got a clue. Talk about being against Leeds again.

WHAT is the correct terminology for a traditional out try?

A try is a try. If it is not a try it is not a try. It is not a touch down if it is illegal and it is disallowed.

One commentator I heard recently – I won't give the name – called it a goal.

What is the correct ruling or at least terminology on this?

Has the terminology changed since rugby league came to us from the last century?

I await in anticipation for the correct answer.

I'VE READ about the players who are up for the Man of Steel award this year.

All are good players but I'd like to see the player who should have won it last year – Rob Burrow – winning it this time instead.

You get a full 80 minutes out of Rob every match, whether it's for the Rhinos or Great Britain.

He will tackle anybody from a winger to an 18 stone forward.

He is a 100 per cent team man, he is only 5ft 5 ins, but plays like a 6 ft 5 ins player.

So let's see Rob Burrow's name on the Man of Steel trophy at the end of this season.

AFTER noting Yorkshire's Twenty20 teams in the two recent Headingley defeats against Derbyshire and Notts I was left wondering just who selects the Yorkshire team these days?
It surely must be "Golden Boy" Vaughan because where is the sense or logic in selecting a player of his age who has rarely performed with any success at one-day level, and certainly never at Twenty20.
I do hope I'm wrong and Vaughan produces a few innings worthy of the name but, personally, I very much doubt it and I'm not holding my breath in anticipation!
Come on Yorkshire – someone have a little bottle and tell Michael he is filling a place which really should be going to a younger, fitter, up-and-coming county player.

MICHAEL VAUGHAN is a bit late in waking up to the threat Twenty20 poses to the proper game.

All credit to him for speaking out but what saddens me is the spineless acceptance by the media and the players of this cheapjack travesty of our noble game.

Cricket has produced great players, great characters and great literature over the years and the thought that it might be marginalised or even superseded by this tawdry exhibition is quite distressing.

It is a pity that those who could have spoken out were sold out instead.

I HAVE recently read that the Whites may be trying to lure Kevin Phillips to Elland Road.

I feel this would be a great signing especially because he would be coming on a free transfer.

The main point though, was that I have also read that West Ham United have released former Newcastle star Nolberto Solano.

He is quoted as saying that he wants to stay and play in England for another two years, for any team in the top three divisions, as long as he is playing.

Solano would be a great signing for Leeds as he is a quality player and also, he would be free. I am surprised that Leeds have not made an approach if we are trying to bolster our team for next season.

Just wondered what other Leeds fans thought of this? I think if he goes somewhere else, Leeds will have missed out big time. I feel the experience of the two players mentioned would be huge and it would be something to get the fans excited about.
