IN response to Coun Richard Brett's letter of July 12 regarding wind farms, I fail to see why a Liberal Democrat councillor for inner city Burmantofts is concerning himself with issues outside of his area and outside of his brief.
The much-used bogus claim that wind turbines can't be any closer to Leeds Bradford Airport than Hook Moor between Aberford and Micklefield is ridiculous; QinetiQ environmental consultants build wind turbines with radar absorbing material, enabling th
em to remain invisible to radar.
In these circumstances Coun Brett, supporter of wind farms, could build one in the Liberals' own backyard, say within Leeds North West constituency.
Perhaps Coun Brett should listen to his own Liberal MP, Greg Mulholland: "I'm always concerned when the strength of local feeling (against wind farms] is ignored." (September 8, 2005). Perhaps Richard Brett should concentrate on sorting out the numerous problems within Burmantofts; hardly a glowing example to the rest of Leeds.
Perhaps he should also consider the scale and strength of local feeling against the wind farm at Hook Moor, and see if he stands by the Lib-Dem claim of local democracy. Or will he ignore it in the interests of bulldozing green fields far from his neck of the woods? Only time will tell.
His letter shows why the Liberal Democrats are thankfully unelected in this area and will remain unelectable and irrelevant.
