The end of a lifeline

I was dismayed to read in the YEP that 22 Leeds post offices are to close. I had tried to do my bit by signing the YEP petition and emailing the Post Office direct; much good did it do!

I personally know three of the threatened post offices – Oatland Lane (Little London), Raynville Road (Leeds 13) and Tong Road (Leeds 12). All three have one thing in common. They all have wonderfully helpful staff, serve some of the most disadvantaged communities in the country and provide a lifeline for disabled and elderly people.

I think it is utterly appalling that these lifelines are being arbitrarily closed on monetary grounds. They should be saved at all cost because their loss will be a hammer blow to local people that depend on them in some many different ways.

Cherril Cliff, Leeds 12
