WITH reference to your recent article 'Knight of the road,' could I please enlighten you as to the actual sequence of events on Sunday, August 17.
Firstly, Mr Savile was not the first person on the scene of the accident. That person was a work colleague of mine, his wife and two of their friends. It was that person who contacted the emergency services and it was that person who assisted the injured passenger whilst being given instruction from the Ambulance Service on his mobile phone.

Mr Savile was in attendance shortly after the accident occurred and was criticised by other members of the public for encouraging other vehicles to drive over the debris of this accident.

For the record, it was incredibly naive for the police to give an 81-year-old man the authority to be involved in re-directing traffic at the scene of an accident.

What sort of message does this send out?

My work colleague has given his details to the police at the scene but does not seek publicity as some others do.

Graham Walker, River View, Boston Spa
