WITH a lot of school leavers looking for jobs just now, my mind goes back to when I was trying to help my son find an electrician apprenticeship.
He had qualified at college on a pretty hard course, but when he applied, most firms leaned over backwards to help him, whilst others messed him around and some didn't even bother to acknowledge his application.

Please, recruiters and proprietors,
remember that these will be the workers of Great Britain for years to come, and respect their interests and enthusiasm as the first step on their ladder to the future.

Save summer highlight

I am a British citizen, born in Leeds but now living in Strasbourg, France.

The Leeds Shakespeare Festival in Kirkstall Abbey is one of the summer highlights which I really enjoy when returning to my home town in the summer. I have attended many festivals with my 80-year-old mother, teenage daughter, sisters, aunt etc. Everyone has always really appreciated the top quality of the performances, and the evenings have always been happy and memorable. It would be so sad to see all this disappear.

Council has cash to burn

I know our councils seem to have money to burn with their fancy ideas, but to give £50 vouchers to people they let down is to give money away, instead of using it to improve services.

Also, I note ministers were given this advice from a group of experts, so that more money is given away to the endless groups of quangos the Labour Government have set up, who only tell us what most of us already know.

A better use of money would be to give children £50 a year if they don't play truant

Good work

There has been a lot of bad press written about South Leeds high school.

But I would like to thank Mr Colin Bell for all his hard work and also the support he has given to my granddaughter.

Well done to them all.

MRS P EVANS, Middleton Road, Leeds.
