Refreshing sights at resort
THERE have been a few TV programmes lately about the best places to buy a house on the coast. One had Tynemouth, near Newcastle, and one Edinburgh – all right if you want some use out of your overcoat, even in summer.
We had a lovely day out at Scarborough last Friday. After all the economic doom and gloom, it was refreshing seeing kiddies enjoying themselves on the beach and donkeys, and people happily promenading on the front, seemingly oblivious to the credit crunch.
A Sunday newspaper put Scarborough in top spot, above places such as Southwold, Suffolk, and Morecambe. One reason was, it said, that properties had not dropped much in price.
Six months ago we drove along the Esplanade and counted over 20 flats for sale. Last week there was the same almost, with only one sold sign.
They haven't gone down because none have been sold. A canny buyer could offer a very low price and surely get one of them.
