YESTERDAY (Tuesday, September 30) I left my recycling bin outside for its four-weekly collection. On returning home later in the day I found the contents had not been removed and a sticky tape placed over the bin lid advising me that it contained non-recyclable materials.
On checking the bin I found on the top inside a pair of slippers. These had been placed there by my wife as they were recyclable material. It would appear the operative had lifted the bin lid and on seeing the slippers had taken this course of action.

The bin was full of cleaned material but regardless of this the operative had rejected the remainder of the bin's contents.

Stood alongside the recycle bin was my normal weekly rubbish bin. I am amazed the operative could not merely remove the slippers if they were deemed unrecyclable.

My bin is still full and I will be unable to place my next four weeks recyclables in it so these will end up in the general waste.

Much time, effort and money has been put into the council recycling programme, which I fully support, and it seems a shame the actions of this operative could undermine it.

Maybe a word in the operative's ear, re common sense, would not go amiss.
