Leeds gets cold shoulder
Published Date:

I REGULARLY look at the list of places in the UK with weather reports published in my daily morning paper and for some reason find that Leeds nearly always comes near the lowest with maximum/minimum temperatures.
As I write, I have just perused those for Friday, October 2 (totalling more than 90) and the pattern continues with Leeds, with 8ºC/3ºC, at the second joint lowest. The highest was Southampton with 14ºC/8ºC.
Can anyone explain what geographical or meteorological quirk makes Leeds colder than one would expect – often colder than most places in Scotland? Perhaps Leeds householders should be entitled to extra winter fuel supplements?
