Why has the Grand Arcade in Leeds always been a poor relation to the other city centre arcades? It is far from grand, more downright depressing, seemingly never having had any significant amounts of money spent on it.

I walked down the arcade for the first time in many years and found it to be a thoroughfare of many empty shops. The arcades lower down Briggate are bustling and, with some major investment, the Grand could be the same.
