I am writing with regards to the closure of Newlands post office, in Albert Drive, Morley.

Has anyone who has made this decision actually been and assessed the journey that many tenants and residents have to make to the nearest post office, which is in Queen Street, Morley? We have many people in our area that are elderly and disabled who will find it a real struggle to get to the town centre and for many, Newlands post office is their only means of seeing someone outside their own home. Instead of closing the post offices why not look into ways of how they could make a profit, eg make the post office the only place to buy tv licences and car taxes and stamps and make it so you can only get pensions and benefits from the post office. On the Royal Mail website it is stated that the Hardwick Road branch in Pontefract has been saved because the route to alternative branches is said to be too hilly. Some of the people in my area have to go uphill to the Newlands post office now, but having to go to Morley they have a longer uphill trek and the queue at the Queen Street branch is already horrendous .
