Dangers in the chatroom
HAVING read the article about the internet groomer (YEP, July 22), I was pleased that he had been caught and jailed for two years, but I don't believe that a jail sentence of two years is enough. In my opinion a sentence of five years would send out a more powerful message.
These people are very devious by nature, they are deceitful and cunning and can infiltrate all levels of society. Young people deserve to be protected from these evil men and women who have no right to live amongst decent members of society.
As responsible parents we should start to monitor our children's computer activities more, and not just leave them to their own devices. It might sound a bit too intrusive, especially to teenagers, but we need to get the message across that we, as parents, are just concerned and worried about the person who they are chatting to.
On this occasion we have to thank the actions of the security guards. Unfortunately sometimes the consequences are different, and we end up reading about a tragedy.
These evil people need to be removed from society and subjected to the full term in jail, not let out after six months with good behaviour to re-offend.
