Clergy say 'No' to BNP

Again in this year's council elections, the BNP has had a sizable vote in the Temple Newsam ward, slightly down on last year but still at 22 per cent.

This is worrying figure for all of us who believe that everyone should be treated equally and fairly no matter what their colour or creed.

It was good to see that UNITE leafleted in this ward to help people understand what the BNP's agenda is, and the attitudes that characterise their party.

There is such a great deal to be gained by living in an open welcoming multi-cultural society, and much to be lost in trying to keep out anyone "not like us".

We hope that at the next opportunity to vote, more and more people will have the courage to stand up and say "no" to the BNP.

Rev Robert B Creamer, Colton Methodist Church; Rev Canon Ian Black, St. Mary's Whitkirk (C of E), Rev Mark Heather, St. Wilfred's Halton (C of E); Rev. Georgina Brotherton,
Christ Church LEP Halton (Meth/URC)
