Sir James Savile, a true Leeds Loiner, ex-miner Bevan Boy, DJ, Master of Ceremonies Mecca Locano, wrestler, TV star of Jim'll Fix It helping other people to realise their dreams. Not many people could get the QE2 to pull into Scarborough Bay for all us Yorkshire guys and gals as Jim did.
He worked as a porter at Leeds General Infirmary and Stoke Mandeville hospitals, all unpaid of course.

But I think probably his fundraising for many charities during marathons and cycling etc must have made more money for good causes than anyone in the country. I mention this because people soon forget the traffic accident he helped out with recently near Oakwood clock. This was something any decent person would do, but don't let's forget Sir Jimmy is 81 years of age and he could have driven past.

The kind of man I don't mind having a few quid in the bank because he has earned it. Jim was not born with a silver spoon in his mouth. He has got where he is because he is a grafter.

I think as a thank you Leeds City Council should erect a statue in Roundhay Park, close to the mansion or maybe Canal Gardens as a tribute to this special, one-off Leeds Loiner Sir James Savile. After all, he does live looking over this great park of ours.

MR K E COATES, Garforth, Leeds.
