Black hole in our finances

I READ an interesting story today about an experiment that is due to take place on September 10.
It involves something called the Large Hadron Collider or LHC; an underground tunnel that is 17 miles long and has cost some £4.4billion to build.
As I understand it this works by firing atomic particles in opposite directions along the length of the tunnel at fantastic speeds, the aim, to create a part of the atom called the Higgs boson. But it is reported that some scientists fear that this will also create millions of small black holes which they say could combine into one large enough to consume the Earth.
Scary stuff indeed. But it strikes me that here in Britian we've already conducted this experiment.
Over the last 11 years we've had hundreds of atoms (Labour MPs) fired in opposite directions at high speeds along a tunnel (Westminster) combined with thousands of civil servants. The result? A huge black hole in our nation's finances.
