United's super show at Tranmere on Tuesday gave both fans and players a major boost as we approach the business end of the season. Jermaine Beckford was back on form, and amongst the goals, while Becchio and Snodgrass proved that we are not just a one-man goal supply. Tomorrow's game is a stern test of our promotion credentials, against a team who have accumulated 10 goals in their last two home games. A point for United tomorrow would be a satisfactory return on a day where United's closest rivals all seem to have testing away fixtures.

Tuesday's long overdue performance at Tranmere bought some breathing space prior to a spate of high-profile fixtures commencing at Southampton tomorrow. I have long maintained that the availability and form of Kisnorbo and Beckford is key to our promotion aspirations – the former was imperious at the heart of the defence with the latter producing one of his best displays in a Leeds shirt. This weekend looks pivotal with all the top sides playing one another. Our last visit to St Mary's produced a remarkable victory from 3-0 down, but a boring draw would be satisfactory this time round.

The league table certainly looks a lot healthier after our fabulous display at Tranmere on Tuesday. I was pleased to see Naylor return to the heart of defence with Kisnorbo – with those two at the back I feel like we have a chance of winning against anyone. It was a result we needed to boost confidence with three big games on the horizon, starting with Southampton. The Saints have worked their way steadily up the table since their points deduction but may just miss out on the play-offs. We need to start all guns blazing, like Tuesday.

The demolition of lowly Tranmere is just what the Whites needed and gives us some breathing space from the chasing pack. It was great to see the centre midfield pairing running the show on Tuesday. You have to love Doyle's commitment and graft, while Howson showed his potential as a midfield dynamo. They have to replicate that performance across the next few crunch fixtures, starting at the Saints this weekend. We've got the guile and creativity in our locker with our attacking options, if the midfield battle can be won then I'm sure we'll achieve our goal this season.

I'm sure that everyone is as pleased as me that we finally put a team to the sword with that thumping win against Tranmere. The victory was perfectly timed as we come up against one of our old Premiership foes at St Mary's tomorrow. Realistically we won't turn the Saints over like we did Tranmere so we need to keep the ball, play football on the ground and battle hard for the points. The Beckford/Becchio partnership looks like it's in much better shape recently so the goals that they can score between now and May 8th will be crucial.
Prediction: Southampton 1 Leeds United 2
