Leeds United's in-the-spotlight players won't be found wanting at Kettering tomorrow.
That's the message from boss Simon Grayson, who says the Whites have drawn strength out of the adversity of last season's embarrassing Histon horror show – and are focused on putting those wretched memories finally to bed against fellow Conference outfit Poppies in their televised FA Cup clash at Rockingham Road.
The second-round tie has captured the imagination of the country and while Leeds were found out last season, Grayson is confident that his battle-hardened players will prove a different proposition.
He said: "The players who were involved in that game were obviously disappointed with what happened.
"But it's obviously an inspiration and motivation that we don't want it to happen to us again. I feel we've a squad of players who are stronger characters now who won't let that situation affect them (again).
"Those that played in the game will be stronger for that experience and will want to make sure they put what was wrong on that day right.
"We're under no illusions that it will be an easy game, it's certainly not going to be.
"There's always a scalp in every round. You look at the last round and Charlton went out, but Norwich went through a difficult tie quite comfortably.
"Everyone is looking for an upset. That's why it's on telly, we're the highest ranked team in the division playing against a Conference team. Although they are a decent one.
"They obviously lost their manager recently. But the new manager will have his own ideas and philosophies and they've got one or two players in and out.
"We're expecting a difficult game and we'll give them the utmost respect. We've had them watched three or four times and looked at DVD's and we'll be prepared for this game as we would if we were playing Huddersfield, Charlton, Southampton and Liverpool."
Meanwhile, Grayson has revealed that loan signings Tony Capaldi and Hogan Ephraim both turned down offers from Championship clubs to join United.
The loan duo arrived along with Liverpool keeper David Martin on Thursday, with Grayson delighted he has been able to cover his bases ahead of a gruelling schedule of games.
He said: "Both Tony and Ephraim turned down Championship clubs to come to us, which is a testament to our football club that one, we can go and attract them and the chairman has given me licence to go and get them in.
"But also that the players have chosen us above of other clubs."
On the outgoing front, Davide Somma, Alan Sheehan and Andrew Milne have joined Chesterfield, Swindon and Darlington respectively, with a couple of other deadline day loan deals which would have seen fringe players head out falling through.
Grayson added: "Two other squad players nearly went out, but those deals fell through in the last two hours.
"We more or less had a deal agreed with the two clubs involved and the players wanted to go, but the clubs backed out at the last minute."
