Leeds United fans have always known John Charles had the Midas touch.
His native Wales crowned him their Golden Player – the most significant person to play for the country in the last 50 years – and a golden cast of his boots was made.

The boots are expected to be in big demand when they are auctioned next week.

A framed display case containing the cast from his 1950s boots are being auctioned in Chester next Wednesday with an estimate of £3,000.

Bonhams describe the lot as having label attached to boot signed by
John Charles, an engraved gold plaque, reading 'The Gentle Giant Trust
Collection John Charles Leeds Utd Juventus, Cardiff City and Wales'. It is attached to a wooden base layered with red velvet cloth.

The auction also features items belonging to Anne Wyatt, the former partner of Yorkshire and England cricketer Geoffrey Boycott.

They include several miniature hand-signed bats and an engraved silver plate associated to Boycott.
