Chief football writer Phil Hay rates how Leeds United's players performed at Hartlepool United.
Casper Ankergren: Well beaten clinical finishes from Boyd and Sweeney and could not have been expected to stop either effort. His earlier save from Boyd was outstanding...6/10

Leigh Bromby: Bromby's long throw-ins caused problems and he did not look troubled until Hartlepool sent on Ritchie Jones and mixed up their play. Harshly penalised at the death...6/10

Lubomir Michalik: Will take his share of the blame for United's dual concessions but he got through a huge amount of work and finished the game in credit, despite the scoreline...6/10

Richard Naylor: Both Pools efforts were assisted by suspect defending, but United's back four were given little protection by their midfield and Naylor fought tirelessly under pressure...7/10

Shane Lowry: Seemed to tire in the latter stages at Victoria Park, which is hardly surprising, but kept a very tight grip on the right channel and should not bear the weight of any criticism directed at Leeds...6/10

Max Gradel: Made more of this opportunity than he has of previous starts in Grayson's line-ups and came within a yard of scoring shortly after the interval. Not at his best, though...6/10

Michael Doyle: Produced a consummate performance in the first half and had a hand in both of United's goals but his authority diminished in the engine room as the match wore on...6/10
Jonathan Howson: Never looked completely comfortable but aided Leeds' dominance of midfield for the best part of an hour. Found the going tough once Pools threw caution to the wind...5/10
Gary McSheffrey: Possession eluded him initially, forcing the winger to roam across the field in search of the ball. Influential in spells, but United simply did not involve him enough in the play throughout...5/10

Luciano Becchio: Looked far more like his old self and mixed up his graft outside the box with productive poaching inside it. But for home keeper Flinders, he might have finished with a hat-trick...8/10

Jermaine Beckford: Produced the inch-perfect cross which Becchio dispatched in the first half tp put Leeds ahead, and Hartlepool's defence must have been delighted to see the back of him so early...5/10

Substitutes:
Robert Snodgrass (for Beckford, 46)...6/10
Bradley Johnson (for McSheffrey, 86)...5/10
Not used: Andrew Hughes, Jason Crowe, Aidan White, Mike Grella, David Martin.

If that was Gradel making more of his opportunity than he has in the past...dear me, he was woeful on saturday. Anyone who was there could see he put a decent shift in, but thats where the good news stops with Max as far as that game went.
