Defiant Leeds Rhinos boss Brian McClennan insists there are more "twists and turns" to come in engage Super League XIII.
Rhinos' hopes of reaching the Grand Final suffered a setback when they were beaten 22-12 at Warrington Wolves on Saturday evening.

St Helens' win at Wakefield Trinity Wildcats yesterday lifted them two points clear of second-placed Rhinos – with a
far superior points difference – going into the final four rounds of the regular season.

Leeds remain three ahead of third-placed Les Catalans Dragons, who lost at Hull KR on Friday night and McClennan said: "I think there'll be some twists and turns in the season yet, I really do.

"The way it's structured now, with the Carnegie Challenge Cup so close to the semi-finals, I think it makes for a lot of twists and turns.

"St Helens are going to have a big game against Hull (in the Challenge Cup final) and then the semis come up quick.

"It's a difficult thing to do. I think there's a lot more to come yet, but we've just got to concentrate on ourselves.

"We just want to get out and get some fluency in our attack and get some rhythm back. It's fair to say we've lost our mojo at the moment! We need that back."

Leeds led 6-4 at half-time at HJ Stadium, but were out-played in the second half.

"In the first half I thought there was a bit of parity between the two teams," said McClennan.

"We were staying in the game reasonably well, we'd used four subs and they'd used six. We felt all right at half-time, though the penalty count was 6-1 against us.

"I thought in the second half we'd be set up for a bit of a game, but Warrington came out and were able to attack with a lot more cohesion than we did.

"Hats off to them, their second-half performance was very good. In the fourth quarter, they defended really strongly as well, when we started to get more fluency in our attack. In the third quarter they got us out on the edges a few times. We had a few defenders come out of the line, we weren't holding our line well enough.

"We were flat in periods and when you fatigue a bit, you can make some poor decisions. Warrington came up with plenty of plays with lots of options and they stretched our defence, making us have to make lots of decisions."

McClennan admitted his team were jaded following the cup semi-final defeat by St Helens seven days earlier.

But he added: "We tried to do the best we can as a team, we really tried to get out there and put on a good display.

"We want to feel the joy of playing well and coming up with a good performance.

"We've got a home game against Bradford on Friday and we'll work hard in training to re-ignite our run into the semi-finals."

Rhinos were without leading try scorer Scott Donald for the first time in three seasons, after his wife Melissa gave birth to baby daughter Carly.

McClennan said: "He needed to get her home. There were slight complications, but she's healthy and the baby's well."

Prop Kylie Leuluai said: "It was a very disappointing performance. I thought we might come back in the final 30 minutes, but we had to do too much defensive work in the first half and that took a lot out of us."

Rhinos' reserves went down 36-18 at Warrington in the curtain-raiser.
