THE Yorkshire Open, as predicted in this column in May, is back on the schedule after a two-year gap and will be staged at Howley Hall on September 11, writes John Drake.
The event also has new sponsors, with Hillsborough Steel Stock having put up a £6,000 prize fund.
A field of 30 professionals and 30 amateurs will contest a championship last played at Huddersfield and won by Cherry Burton professional John Wells.
The top 20 in the Yorkshire Bank-Yorkshire PGA order of merit automatically qualify. A pro-am will be played the following day.
Meanwhile, Walton Golf Centre's Adrian Ambler equalled the course record of nine under par 61 to win the Yorkshire PGA pro-am at Roundhay by a couple of shots from Cleckheaton's Warren Lockett and Sheffield's Neil Cheetham, now on his way for another crack at the Sunshine Tour in South Africa.
Also in record-scoring mode was former Sand Moor amateur star Iain Pyman, the European Tour member now based near Selby.
He fired a winning 64 at The Oaks to win the Yorkshire PGA pro-am by two strokes from Crosland Heath's Europro Tour player Chris Hanson and Sheffield-based Challenge Tour man Gareth Davies.
Hanson went one better in the Yorkshire PGA pro-am at Otley, shooting five under par 65 to edge Dan Thomas and Peter Robinson by two.
