An initiative has been launched by the PGA and Glenmuir to find Great Britain and Ireland's top junior section.
Clubs from all over the UK are encouraged to enter for the chance to win clothing from Glenmuir's new Golfing Kids range worth £1,000 and a plaque to display in the clubhouse.

The overall winner's PGA professional will earn £1,000.

Awards will
also be made to the best junior sections in each of the four home countries before an overall winner is selected. These national winners will also be rewarded with Glenmuir junior shirts worth £750 and a £250 cheque for the club's PGA professional.

The awards will be presented at a PGA event in the winner's region with the overall award being presented at the Glenmuir PGA Professional Championship at Moortown on July 29- August 1.

PGA members should already have received an application form, but if they have not they should contact Laraine Beeching on 01675 470 333 or email laraine.beeching@pga.org.uk.

THOUGH US Ryder Cup captain Paul Azinger is already playing the mind games ahead of September's match at Valhalla, Kentucky, and has taken a swipe at Nick Faldo, Europe's skipper has played down any suggestion that he and Azinger are enemies.

Azinger claimed that players want nothing to do with Faldo and said that there is "no way" Colin Montgomerie will be given a wild card because of what Faldo thinks of him. The former US PGA champion, runner-up to Faldo in the 1987 Open, says he wants the opportunity to play with Montgomerie so that he could ask him to "give me some stuff" on Faldo.

Azinger added: "He and Faldo don't seem to get along and there's no way Faldo will award him one of his two wild cards."

But Faldo insisted he had no problem with his opposite number.

He said: "There's no beef between us at all. We've spoken several times and we'll probably go fishing at the end of the Ryder Cup."

Darren Clarke sprang to the defence of Faldo, saying: "Nick will be a sensational captain. He might not go about it like Woosie (Ian Woosnam) or Jesse (Mark James), but he'll be very thorough."

And Padraig Harrington added: "I think Nick is going to be a great captain.

"I don't believe the players have any antagonism to each other. I think we get on, we play so much together."
